The Home Guard

The Radio Station Home Guard platoon was formed early in the war and was commanded by Lt. GH Vickers with Lt. AJ Bailey MC as his second in command. The platoon was made up of telecommunication specialists who would report for work in uniform and armed.

Eventually a unit from the 31st Warwickshire Regiment was given responsibility for guarding the site and assisting in the training of the Radio Station platoon. With modern weapons and a 900 acre site to hone their skills, the Radio Station’s training and development was, at the time, well ahead of other Home Guard units.
