Heated Swimming Pools

The water-cooling system for the transmitter valves called for two reservoirs and a pump house to be built. The reservoirs were filled from the brook that ran through the site and each held 250,000 gallons of water. Pipes brought the water up to a two storey cooling tower which housed distilled water pumps and heat exchangers.

This process allowed the hot distilled water from the transmitter valves to be cooled by reservoir water. The heated reservoirs were used by members of the station staff as their own, private outdoor swimming pools!
